Please note that Montessori schools are independently owned and operated. They may be non-profit or for-profit independent, public, charter, or magnet schools. AMS is a membership organization providing resources and services that support quality Montessori education and teacher education. AMS member schools must agree to abide by the AMS Code of Ethics. AMS is not a quality control agency and, except in the case of accredited schools (see below), which are monitored for compliance, may not interfere in the educational and business practices of member schools.

Schools may be full, associate, satellite, initiate, or international members of AMS. The membership level is determined according to an evaluation of teacher credentials.
