There are an estimated 4,000 Montessori schools in the United States and thousands more worldwide.
Some adhere strictly to the Montessori educational model first developed by Dr. Maria Montessori more than 100 years ago. Others view this model as flexible and evolving. Many schools adapt the approach to fit their own cultures or principles.
Membership in a professional organization such as the American Montessori Society is voluntary. Schools that join demonstrate an interest in achieving credibility and strengthen the collective voice of Montessori education.
