Public Policy
The American Montessori Society is a vigorous advocate for the Montessori community, working to influence legislation and other public policy issues related to education and the well-being of children and families.
AMS advocacy activities include—
- providing legislators and policymakers with information about vital issues, including charter schools, universal pre-kindergarten, and standardized testing, among others;
- maintaining open lines of communication with policymakers at the national, state, and local levels, ensuring that Montessori’s interests are represented;
- allying with organizations with similar advocacy interests, including the Council for American Private Education (CAPE), the Children’s Defense Fund, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and Pre-K Now.
Public Policy Committee
The AMS Public Policy Committee works to impact public policy on issues of central importance to the Montessori community in the United States. The group is actively seeking new members and would like representation from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. To learn more, please contact Michelle Hammons, committee chair.
